TempSafe® thermal packaging products are easy to recycle. The guidelines below provide general guidance. For specific recycling requirements in your area, please consult your local municipality.
Recycling Instructions
TempSafe BioShield®, TempSafe EcoShield® & TempSafe WineShield™
Both the corrugated box and the cellulose panels are certified for curbside recyclability by Western Michigan University but are not compostable. During the re-pulping process, the cellulose and kraft remains are preserved and used as clean, recycled content for new paper-based products.
Recycle:
- Remove the cellulose panels from the corrugated box.
- Place both in the curbside recycling bin to ensure proper sorting at your local material recycling facility.
- No separation of cellulose and kraft paper required.
Reuse:
- Reuse the corrugated boxes for return packaging.
- Reuse the cellulose as packaging material for storage or your next move.
Gel Pack Recycling Instructions
For Glacier Ice Gel Packs:
Both the corrugated box and the cellulose panels are certified for curbside recyclability by Western Michigan University but are not compostable. During the re-pulping process, the cellulose and kraft remains are preserved and used as clean, recycled content for new paper-based products.
Recycle:
- Cut the corner and pour the gel into the trash or spread it in an isolated area of the yard or garden where pets do not have access.
- Rinse the plastic pouch and recycle it anywhere #4 low density polyethylene plastic is accepted.
- Note that Glacier Ice gel is 99.5% water and will dehydrate to 0.5% of its weight.
- Whole gel packs may be disposed of in your waste bin according to local and state laws.
Reuse:
- Rinse clean and store in household freezers to keep perishables cold in other household coolers and lunchbags.
For Enviro Ice Gel Packs:
Enviro Ice underwent rigorous lab testing and has no impact on sinks, PVC pipes, septic tanks, or municipal treatment centers. In addition to being drain safe, Enviro Ice is nitrogen-based and can be used as plant food.
Recycle:
- Cut the corner and pour the gel down a household drain or flush it in a toilet.
- Rinse the plastic pouch and recycle it anywhere #4 low-density polyethylene plastic is accepted.
- Whole gel packs may be disposed of in your waste bin according to local and state laws.
Reuse:
- Rinse clean and freeze in household freezers to be used in lunchboxes or ice chests to keep perishables cold.
Foam Brick Refrigerant Recycling Instructions
Disposal:
- Cut open and put the rigid foam into the trash, as over time it will turn into a dust-like material.
- Dispose of the film in the trash.
- Whole gel packs may be disposed of in your waste bin according to local and state laws.
Reuse:
- Rinse clean and freeze in household freezers to be used in lunchboxes or ice chests to keep perishables cold.
